Add Character to a Room With Rugs

The right rug has the ability to add character, color and dimension to any space. Whether it is your living room, bedroom, hallway, bathroom, or kitchen - a rug can transform a room without having to repaint or change your furniture. In this blog, we will show you the simple yet powerful impact the right rug can have in your home decor.

Pick the right materiaL

When selecting a rug, you first need to consider the location and function of the rug in your space - this will be a critical consideration when deciding on the choice of material.

For example, you will want the rug in your living room or bedroom to be cozy and warm - longer fiber rugs could be a good fit - while a rug for the kitchen will need to be easy to clean. Similarly, a bathroom rug will need to handle moisture and water well. You get the idea!

Make it the focul point

Using your rug as a focal point is a great way to make a statement! Make your interior pop by bringing in a colorful and bold rug. Play with texture, or pick a patterned rug to place centrally in the room. A rug is an unexpected way to bring in color, pattern, and vibrance into your space. Do not be afraid to let your personality shine!

key tips on rug placement

If you’re not sure what to do with your area rug, try the following placements:

  • Living room: under the coffee table but large enough to sit under the legs of your sofa. Avoid going too small!

  • Dining room: under the kitchen table and chairs

  • Bedroom: by the foot of the bed.

  • Kitchen: not directly under the counter space. Leave a little bit of room between the counters and rug.

  • Bathroom: by the shower/tub, by the sink, by the toilet.
